The Kreag way

Kreag Corporation strives to support people and live up to its namesake, J. Adam Kreag.  Mr. Kreag was the treasurer of the Shinola Company in Rochester, New York, manufacturers of shoe polish. He devoted much of his wealth to worthwhile causes.

Mr. Kreag’s philanthropy extended to many. One notable cause was creating a safe place for young women.

One rainy night in November 1913, a young woman from out of town was looking for a Catholic women’s club where she might find lodging.  There was no such place at the time. Mr. Kreag became aware of this fact and decided to do something about it.

He offered more than $10,000 (over $300,000 value in today’s world) to Bishop Hickey in order to support this underserved population. In 1915, the diocese purchased and remodeled the former Pinnacle Club Rochester. It opened on October 21 as the Saint Elizabeth Guild House, a residence for young women in need.

This is just one of the worthwhile causes that Adam Kreag was involved with that inspired Kreag Corporation to carry on his name and the good work he started.

Today, Kreag Corporation donates a large portion of its profits to charity. It’s the Kreag Way.
